Artist's Background

Michael Driggs grew up and attended schools in Utah which included the illustration program of Utah State University under Glen Edwards.  Painting and strong drawing skills, then and now, have been his primary interest, study, and practice.

Life and making a living interrupted (or postponed) a promising art career for several years until returning to school and receiving his BFA at Washington University, St. Louis in 1988.  Michael then accepted and excelled in illustration and Senior Design positions throughout a 26-year career with Hallmark Cards until retirement in 2014.  He now enthusiastically follows his life-long painting desire.

Expressive mark making, images with strong compositional/abstract presence, a sense of place, mood and atmosphere have been motivational ideals relentlessly pursued.  Often, a subtle narrative quality underlies the simplified elements.
